Welcome to ICE! We are very proud to offer Postgraduate courses in partnership with the University of Salford, as well as a suite of stand-alone CPD courses.
Our mission, based on our extensive clinical, research and teaching experience in implant dentistry, supported by the exceptional dedication and skills of our faculty, is to provide evidence-based training to all members of the Dental Team, to empower them to deliver implant dentistry to their patients, with success and predictability at all levels.
Having taught and mentored hundreds of colleagues in this field, our objective is to provide a great learning experience in implantology and help to improve clinical outcomes that have a real and practical impact on practice.
We do this by applying novel teaching and learning methods with on-going clinical supervision and constant support from our University and industry partners. Techniques and biomaterials in implant dentistry are constantly changing, so keeping up-to-date with new technology and developing your clinical skills is paramount for sustaining successful outcomes. This is particularly relevant when the wider scope of implant practice includes diverse treatments such as advanced hard and soft tissue grafting, vertical GBR, sinus floor elevations and full mouth rehabilitation of the atrophic jaw. Our research has shown that such evidence-based and patient-centred clinical training at our Institute makes a huge contribution to enhancing clinical performance and job satisfaction of the entire Dental Team, whilst increasing quality of life for patients through achieving safe and predictable results.
Cemal Ucer first established an implant referral centre in 1995. He was awarded an MSc in Implantology at Manchester Dental Hospital following his research into guided bone regeneration and osteopromotion. He later gained a PhD for his clinical and laboratory studies into the factors affecting the success of implant treatment in iliac grafts and the investigation of the effect of skeletal bone density on implant survival. He has personally trained and mentored more than 1,000 dentists in implant dentistry as one of the main providers of implant education in the UK.
Cemal’s current clinical research interests include bone quality and quantity and role of major bone grafting on the success of dental implants, management of nerve damage, 3D surgical navigation, reconstructive bone surgery, GBR and sinus grafting techniques, as well as rehabilitation of severely atrophic maxilla with zygomatic and 3D printed customised implants. Academically, he has gained European recognition for his work on the development of a new framework for teaching and assessment of clinical competence in implantology. He is a co-author of the consensus paper produced by the Association for Dental Education in Europe (ADEE) following the first pan-European collaboration between EU universities to establish common training and assessment standards in dental implantology. He is an invited member of the working group convened by the FGDP (UK) and the General Dental Council (GDC) to update the Training Standards in Implant Dentistry (TSID) guidelines in 2012 and 2016.
Cemal is a Fellow of the Dental Trainers Faculty of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd) and a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI) and a member of Megagen’s MINTEC UK & Ireland Board for education and clinical research. He is a member of the editorial board of JOMR (Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Research) and the chair of the editorial advisory board of Implant Dentistry Today. Cemal is Professor and Clinical Lead of the MSc programme in Dental Implantology at University of Salford and a member of the Faculty of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh’s Diploma in Implant Dentistry. He is a past president (2011-2013) and honorary life member of The Association of Dental Implantology (ADI). Professor Ucer’s private Centre for Oral-Maxilla-Facial and Dental Implant Reconstruction has been accredited as an International ZAGA Centre which provides treatment for the rehabilitation of severely atrophic jaws using the standardised anatomically driven ZAGA Zygomatic Implant technique without major bone grafting.
